10 Ways the Mobile App Will Improve Your RootsTech Experience

RootsTech 2019—happening February 27–March 2 at the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City—is shaping up to be even bigger and more impressive than last year! With such an exciting conference planned, and more than 300 classes and activities to choose from, you might be wondering, “How do I make the most of my RootsTech experience?”

Our suggestion? Download the mobile app.

The RootsTech mobile app is designed to help conference attendees navigate the conference, build a personalized schedule, and connect with other attendees. The app is now available for download from the App Store and the Google Play Store.

If you already have the 2018 version of the app installed on your device, you can update and access the 2019 content by:

  1. Opening the RootsTech app
  2. From the home screen, tap Exit to Show List in the bottom right corner
  3. Tap the refresh button in the top right corner
  4. Select RootsTech 2019

While there are many useful features within the RootsTech app, here are ten you might find most useful:

Create a Personalized Class Schedule

From the home screen of the app, tap the Conference Schedule icon to browse a comprehensive list of classes, labs, and events offered each day of the conference. Tap on sessions that you’re interested in to learn more about the topic, the presenter, and the location. Once you’ve found sessions that you wish to attend, tap the star icon to add the session to your agenda. The session will then be added to your agenda and scheduled on your calendar in the app. Please note that adding a session to your schedule does not guarantee a seat in the session. Seating is based on a first come, first serve basis.

View Your Daily Schedule

Once you’ve selected the classes you’re interested in attending, you can view your daily schedule by tapping the My Schedule icon on the home screen. From here, you’ll be able to see the sessions you’re attending plotted out hour by hour. You can also add customized items (like time to visit the Expo Hall) to the calendar by hitting the + button in the top corner.

It’s a good idea to schedule backup sessions or activities in case your first choice options are full.

Set Schedule Reminders

Do you have classes or events that you don’t want to miss? You can set a reminder to go off before each event on your schedule so that you have plenty of time to get there and find a seat. To set reminders, tap the gear icon in the top right corner, then select My Schedule Reminders.

View Speaker Information

If you want to learn more about a presenter and the sessions they’ll be teaching, you can view a comprehensive list of speakers by tapping the Speakers icon on the home screen.

Find Your Favorite Exhibitors

Tap the Exhibitors icon on the home screen to see a full list of the 200+ exhibitors that will be at RootsTech.

Take Notes in Classes

Take notes on the sessions you attend by clicking on a session then tapping the pencil icon on the left side of the screen. Be sure to save the note so you can reference it later. To look at a list of all your notes, go to the home screen and tap the My Notes icon.

Connect on Social Media

You’ll be able to see what @RootsTechConf (the official RootsTech Twitter account) is tweeting and read the latest posts from the official bloggers at the conference by tapping the Social Media icon on the home screen.

Sync Across Multiple Devices

If you have the RootsTech app on multiple devices, you can sync the content between the various devices and preserve your personal schedule and and Exhibitor bookmarks. To do this, tap the gear icon in the upper right corner of the home screen. From there, select Multi Device Sync and follow the instructions on the next screen to sync.

Create a Profile to Connect with Attendees

Do you want to connect with other attendees? It’s simple! Just set up your profile using your first and last name and check the box to make your profile public. If you want to add your contact information and a profile picture, go ahead. With a public profile, you will show up in the Attendee list on the app, where people can request to be your friend and schedule meetings with you. To access your profile, click on the gear icon in the top right of the screen. Then choose My Profile.

Easily Access the RootsTech Blog

You can access the RootsTech blog year-round from the app. The blog is the best place to get the latest news from RootsTech, as well as read articles on topics like bringing your ancestors’ stories to life, creating memories, or researching a census record. To access the RootsTech blog, select the Exit to Show List icon from the home screen. On the next page, you’ll see the Blog icon located on the bottom bar. Click Blog to be taken to the RootsTech blog within the app and read the latest updates from the conference.
