3 Interesting Facts about Patricia Heaton

We are excited to announce that joining us on the RootsTech stage on February 28, 2019, is actress Patricia Heaton.

Patricia is best known for her roles as Debra Barone on the hit comedy Everybody Loves Raymond and, more recently, as Frankie Heck in The Middle. She was born and raised a Catholic in Ohio and is married with 4 sons. After graduating from college, she moved to New York where her first Broadway appearance was in the chorus of Don’t Get God Started. She and her friends then started an acting troupe, and while touring in LA, she was seen by a casting director and offered a role in the ABC drama Thirtysomething.

Here are three interesting facts you might not know about Patricia:

She is a published author

In 2002, Patricia wrote a book titled Motherhood and Hollywood, a collection of essays on life, love, marriage, child-rearing, show business, and beyond. The book quickly hit the New York Times Bestseller List.

Heaton also has a published cookbook, Patricia Heaton's Food for Family and Friends. This is a collection of 100 recipes designed for "a busy happy life"—recipes that are budget-friendly, simple, and unforgettable. Patricia has also hosted an Emmy-winning show on Food Network called Patricia Heaton Parties, where she created sophisticated versions of traditional American fare, perfect for entertaining family and friends.

She has won several awards for her acting

Patricia is no stranger to the spotlight, and in 2012 she was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Her star was number 2,472 in the television category on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

 

Patricia was also nominated for the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series award from the Primetime Emmy Awards 7 years in a row, 2 of which she won. She has also won 2 Screen Actors Guild awards and an award from the Viewers for Quality Television.

She frequently participates in charity work

Patricia is the Celebrity Ambassador for the international organization World Vision. According to their website, World Vision is "a global Christian relief, development, and advocacy organization dedicated to working with children, families, and communities to overcome poverty and injustice."

In 2015, Patricia and one of her 4 sons traveled to Zambia with World Vision. She has also traveled to Uganda and Sierra Leone to participate in charity work.

Patricia has long supported Big Brothers/Big Sisters and was, in her twenties, a Big Sister. She has also worked with the TS Alliance helping to raise money to research Tuberous Sclerosis. Patricia  has also worked with the Lighthouse Medical Missions, Operation Gratitude, and Reece's Rainbow.
