RootsTech 2020 Thursday in Review: Family Doesn’t Have to Match

From the RootsTech Family to Our Own Trees: Family Doesn’t Have to Match

Over the years, family has expanded to include not only our biological family but also the family we choose. Today we heard stories of choosing family and choosing to turn around and make connections to people. We learned the importance of seeing our story and the stories of people around us in this moment.

General Session

Adoption advocate and inspiration behind the hit movie The Blind Side, Leigh Anne Tuohy, floored audiences with her moving “real talk” about her family’s story, choosing to really see people and discovering the power of expanding her family. Tuohy connected and shared her story in a joyful and moving way. Speaking to the value of one individual in life and in family history she said:

“You can save that one. You can make a difference to that one. The one name that you find could be the difference for you. Turn around; make a difference.”

What’s Happening Tomorrow

A man of countless stories, thousands of photographs and over 50 magazine covers, and winner of a Pulitzer Prize in photography, David Kennerly takes the RootsTech stage tomorrow. Kennerly has photographed 10 U.S. presidents, published several books, and produced a number of film and television productions. He is a man of many stories and thousands of photographs, and we cannot wait to hear his story on the RootsTech stage!

The general session begins tomorrow, Friday, February 28, at 11:00 a.m. on the main stage.

Check-in is open tomorrow from 7:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. You will be able to pick up your conference bag and badge. If your badge was mailed to you, remember to bring it with you. If you forget it, however, you can find help at any of the info desks or check-in.
