FamilyTreeDNA first attended RootsTech in 2012 and has been there every year since, even in London. They love the interaction with attendees and the energy that’s unlike any other event.

Even though FamilyTreeDNA won’t have the full face-to-face experience this year, in many ways RootsTech Connect will be more inclusive than the in-person conference, since the content will be available around the globe. Be sure to check out the recorded talks by Janine Cloud (“Big Y—What Is It? Why Do I Need It?”) and Sherman McRae (“Using DNA to Find Ancestors Lost in Slavery”).

You’ll also want to visit the FTDNA booth in the virtual marketplace. Not only will they have special RootsTech Connect event prices available alongside downloadable materials with valuable information about DNA testing for genealogy, but they’re working hard to provide chat coverage throughout the event for as many time zones as possible.

When the conference opens at 5:00 p.m. MST (GMT - 7) February 24, representatives will be available to chat, and they’re coordinating with their network of group administrators to have someone available through closing time February 27 at 9:00 p.m. MST. Thus far they have representatives from several US and Canadian time zones, as well as England, Ireland, Finland, New Zealand, and Sweden (obviously in alphabetical order, not chronological).

Also, make sure to watch their social media channels for special chat sessions with members of their research and development team and for more specific information on when support will be available in your time zone.
So, while they’ll definitely miss seeing all of you face-to-face, they’re excited for the opportunity to engage with attendees who otherwise would not have been able to make it to our booth.

Collectionaire—The Family History Hub for Organizing and Sharing All of Your Family’s Best Memories!

Recently invited to become a FamilySearch partner, Collectionaire is an online web app for organizing and sharing the best of your family’s memories and mementos. It picks up where FamilySearch and Ancestry.com leave off, allowing people to organize and share digital photo albums, home movies, audio recordings, journals, PDFs, and so on—essentially anything that can be digitized for future viewing.

You won’t even have to move your media. Collectionaire simply links you to memories stored in any cloud site or multiple sites. Cloud photo apps are not made for creating a rich family archive, so Collectionaire acts as a simple “overlay” or “hub” that turns any photo or video cloud app (or multiple apps)—like Apple Photos, Google Photos, Vimeo, OneDrive, Dropbox, and others—into one perfect, shareable family collection.

Ancestor memories are important, but so are yours! So put everything in one great app. And with Collectionaire’s family tree interface, it’s so easy to navigate that even your parents will easily find the family’s best memories!

They Welcome Your Visit at Their Virtual Exhibit Booth

Collectionaire’s exhibit booth is filled with introductory and demo videos to explain this great new approach to a “Best of Family” collection.

Ancestral Quest

Incline Software, LC, was founded in 1993 to create the first desktop family tree program for Windows. Ancestral Quest was released in the fall of 1994 as one of the first such programs. In 2015, Ancestral Quest was also made available for Mac computers. Ancestral Quest is an easy-to-use, full-featured family tree program, allowing entry of ancestral data, including notes, sources, scrapbooks, and research logs. It provides the creation of scores of charts and reports, such as pedigree charts and fan charts. AQ was the first desktop program to sync with FamilySearch Family Tree and received an award from FamilySearch for having the most comprehensive means of syncing. AQ currently provides TreeTips, a research assistance tool that will help you discover your family records, a top-of-class research time line, and award-winning tools for viewing and analyzing one’s ancestry. For many years, Ancestral Quest (AQ) was closely tied to a program called Personal Ancestral File (PAF), as AQ used the PAF database when PAF was a DOS program. This allowed users to use either PAF in DOS or AQ in Windows to work with the same data file. Several years later, Incline Software provided a copy of the Ancestral Quest code to FamilySearch so that PAF could become a Windows program, and both the Windows versions of PAF and AQ were very similar at that time. Eventually, PAF was retired, but Ancestral Quest has continued to evolve and remains one of the top family tree desktop programs for Windows and for Mac.

Ancestral Quest has a booth in the Expo Hall of RootsTech 2021. This booth is filled with over a dozen demos which will help users get familiar with the various benefits of using Ancestral Quest, such as using the TreeTips research assistance tool, creating charts and reports, synchronizing personal data with FamilySearch Family Tree, using the research time line, and so on. You’ll also find a code to purchase Ancestral Quest at a discount at this booth. Ancestral Quest has been translated into 15 languages other than English, and the Ancestral Quest booth is available in 13 of these languages (much of the written information is translated, but the demo videos are in English). Staff will be ready to answer questions and help you out via chat. They look forward to seeing you at the booth!
