RootsTech Day in Review: Discovering connections. Finding belonging.

Discovering connections. Finding belonging.

RootsTech 2019 kicked off today with thousands of family history enthusiasts packing the Salt Palace Convention Center to celebrate family and life.

General Session

Wednesday’s general session featured popular speaker Steve Rockwood, CEO of FamilySearch. Rockwood’s message focused on the healing power that comes as we engage in family history efforts.

“Take any subject matter in history, and you can then tie family history to that, it makes it personal.”

Expo Hall Preview Night

The Expo Hall opened from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and attendees enjoyed uninterrupted time talking with vendors and testing out the latest family history tech.

What’s Happening Tomorrow

The always delightful and widely acclaimed actress Patricia Heaton will be the keynote speaker Thursday, February 28. She is best known for her roles as Deborah Barone on the hit sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond and more recently as Frankie Heck on The Middle.

If anyone understands the crazy and sometimes complicated ins and outs of family life, it’s Patricia. As a wife for nearly 30 years and a mother of four adult sons, Heaton has plenty of personal experience to fuel her success in her iconic motherly roles. After playing a wife and mother for 18 seasons on sitcoms, and many more years as an actual one, she has much to share about family and values, in a very funny way.

Her keynote address begins at 11:00 a.m. on the main stage.

If you haven’t already, be sure to check in and receive your conference badge. Check-in is located in Hall 4. Your conference bag and lanyard can be picked up at multiple places throughout the venue.

Thursday’s check-in hours: 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Learning begins early tomorrow as Power Hour classes begin at 8:00 a.m. Power Hour classes feature three different presenters in one room teaching on similar topics for 20 minutes each. Following Power Hour, daily breakout sessions are offered at 9:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m., 3:00 p.m., and 4:30 p.m. View the full schedule on our website or in the mobile app.

Expo Hall

The Expo Hall will be open tomorrow from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

African Heritage Social

The African Heritage Social, featuring guest speaker Regina Mason, will begin in Ballroom B at 6:00 p.m.
