RootsTech Day in Review: The Innovator Summit

Innovator Summit Keynotes

RootsTech 2017 kicked off with a bang as more than 3,000 people packed the Salt Palace for today’s Innovator Summit session of RootsTech. Popular author and president of the Wiseman Group, Liz Wiseman, and FamilySearch CEO Steve Rockwood, were the featured keynote speakers.

The Innovator Summit, an event geared towards innovators and entrepreneurs, has been a venue for creativity and transformation since its inception. This year was no different. Wiseman shared experiences from her business background that highlighted the importance of thinking and acting like a rookie. Wiseman explained that we often do our best work when we feel like we are under qualified or inexperienced.

“Is it possible that we’re actually at our very best when know the very least?” asked Wiseman. “If you want to do something amazing, you’ve got to rediscover your “rookie roots”...When we linger too long on a plateau, a little part of us starts to die.”

Steve Rockwood also inspired the audience with tales of his family, innovation and the importance of one’s personal journey.

“There’s nothing like feeling the connection, and the love, and the joy that

you feel when you discover your family,” he said. “Imagine how we would all look at each other and treat each other when we know we’re connected...Family history has the ability to enhance everyone’s life."
