Free Family History Classes During Family Discovery Day
1:30 P.M. Classes
When leading a busy life, family history can often be left at the bottom of our "To-Do" lists. In this session, we'll teach you simple, quick family history activities that you can use to get your entire family involved.
Join with other Family History Consultants to learn about helpful tips and resources for your calling, such as: Helper Resources, The Planner, Communities, and the Wiki.
Learn from historians on the Saints team how to see women in the historical record. Sources on women may be thin or absent, but it is often possible to find more about women in the records than may appear at first glance. This panel will describe research methods for unlocking sources and learning details that answer important questions, open new avenues of research, and enrich your family story.
3:00 P.M. Classes
Interlocking patterns in recent Church changes have led to greater opportunities to gather Israel on both sides of the veil. If we see the changes made by our prophets as isolated adjustments, we miss the vision of the Lord moving His work forward in an inspired and systematic way. And we might miss opportunities to participate in the work of salvation—including temple and family history work—in new and integrated ways. This class will give ideas for how innovations such as recent changes to the organizations, ministering, and Children and Youth provide enhanced temple and family history opportunities.
As many of us know getting children to do family history work can be difficult. This class will share findings from a recent FamilySearch study on children and family history. In addition I will give tips on preparing our children for the temple and ensuring that their first experience is joyful.
Learn how you can use the vast treasure of original documents and primary sources found in The Joseph Smith Papers for your personal family histories. This session will highlight the tools and resources available at JosephSmithPapers.org, including thousands of original documents, biographies, maps, charts, and more.
